It's not training camp but this Jaguars veteran is already on the hot seat

The Jacksonville Jaguars just wrapped up Organized Team Activities. They'll next head to a much-needed break before returning to training camp. Once they come back, general manager James Gladstone will start putting together the roster.

While no player won (or lost) a job at OTAs, a few of them could already be on thin ice. Offensive line Chuma Edoga may be one of them.

Why is Chuma Edoga is on the hot seat ahead of Jaguars training camp?

Chuma Edoga signed a two-year deal worth $7 million with the Jaguars in 2025. He had previously played for the New York Jets, the Atlanta Falcons, and the Dallas Cowboys. Although the former USC Trojan made several starts throughout his NFL career, he wasn't particularly consistent. That appeared to change early in his stint in Duval.

Throughout the offseason program, Edoga turned heads, even splitting first-team reps with right tackle Anton Harrison. His encouraging play carried over into training camp. However, it all came to a screeching halt when the regular season rolled around.

Edoga struggled with penalties, getting flagged five times on just 105 snaps. By the end of the season, he was an afterthought on offense. His underwhelming 2025 campaign made him a prime cut candidate in the offseason, as Jacksonville would free up nearly $3 million if it cut ties with him.

Even though Edoga is still with the Jags, that doesn't mean he'll stick around for the regular season. Granted, the veteran hog molly will be given a chance to compete for a roster spot but will have trouble coming out on top.

Why the Jaguars could move on from Chuma Edoga

If the Jaguars didn't think Chuma Edoga could get back on track, they would have probably released him. Instead, he's still on the roster, so it looks like he'll get a chance to show what he brings to the table. The issue is that sophomore Wyatt Milum and rookie Emmanuel Pregnon are lurking around.

Milum missed substantial time in his rookie season with a knee injury. He's back in the fold and could challenge Ezra Cleveland and Patrick Mekari for the starting jobs at left and right guard, respectively. On the other hand, Pregnon was dubbed a steal in Round 3 of the draft. Even if he doesn't start as a rookie, he's virtually a lock to make the team. That could make it challenging for Edoga to stick around.

For the sake of the argument, let's say Jacksonville wanted to keep nine offensive linemen next season. Cleveland, Mekari, Walker Littler, Cole Van Lanen, Robert Hainsay, Anton Harrison, Jonah Monheim, Pregnon, and Millum would probably get the cut. That would probably leave Edoga with a chance to get the nod if the Jags carried 10 bigs next season.

Another way Edoga would make the team is if Van Lanen starts the season on the Physically Unable to Perform list if he isn't fully recovered from a knee injury he sustained late in 2025. Trading Walker Little if Van Lanen is healthy would also pave the way for Edoga to get a roster spot, but that doesn't currently look like a realistic scenario.

The truth is that Chuma Edoga probably won't give up without a fight, but the odds don't appear to be in his favor at this moment.
