4 winners (and 3 losers) from the Jaguars' second week of OTAs

The Jacksonville Jaguars wrapped up their second week of Organized Team Activities and will be embarking on a break before they return to training camp late in July. Several players made the most of their chances and should feel good about their chances of either earning a role or making the roster.

On the other hand, a few Jags players failed to make an impression and will have their work cut out when the team resumes practices. With this in mind, here are the biggest winners and losers from the second week of OTAs.

Winners and losers from the Jaguars' OTA sessions

Jaguars winner: J'Mari Taylor, running back

The Jaguars have caught heat for not properly replacing Travis Etienne. However, they're confident that Bhayshul Tuten is ready to step into his place. On top of that, Chris Rodriguez is expected to get a big workload next season.

The issue is that Rodriguez underwent foot surgery and missed the offseason program. The silver lining is that undrafted rookie J'Mari Taylor took advantage of his absence to build his stock.

Taylor wasted no time showcasing his athleticism at OTAs and looks like a lock to make the 53-man roster ahead of training camp.

Jaguars loser: Ameer Abdullah, running back

The Jaguars signed Ameer Abdullah because of his pass-catching skills and his ability to contribute on special teams. However, that may not be enough to make the roster in light of J'Mari Taylor's ascension.

Maybe Abdullah can convince Jacksonville to keep him around if he shines in training camp. However, he hasn't done much to make you think that he will. If Taylor keeps shining, his veteran counterpart will be on his way out.

Jaguars winner: Jabbar Muhammad, cornerback

The Jaguars signed Jabbar Muhammad as an undrafted free agent in 2025. One year later, the decision looks great in retrospect. Head coach Liam Coen called the sophomore cornerback the most improved player, and understandably so.

Muhammad made several plays at OTAs, but most of them came against the second team. He'll need to prove in training camp that he can go toe-to-toe with the starters. If he does, he'll become a lock to earn a roster spot.

Jaguars loser: Quintin Morris, tight end

Quintin Morris landed with the Jags not long after the 2025 NFL Draft. Although he originally didn't make the roster, he was eventually signed to the active roster. The former Bowling Green standout got a new one-year deal in February and seemed like a good bet to make the team next season. However, it all came to a screeching halt when the Jags drafted Nate Boerkircher and Tanner Koziol.

Even with a chance to prove himself, Morris didn't do much of note at OTAs. In particular, he failed to improve as a pass-catcher. That could make it difficult for him to stick around come roster cutdown day.

Jaguars winner: Tanner Koziol, tight end

Nate Boerkircher got plenty of attention (good and bad) when the Jags made him the 56th overall selection in the 2026 NFL Draft. However, another tight end has stolen the spotlight in the offseason program.

While Boerkircher missed mandatory minicamp and the second week of OTAs, Tanner Koziel made a jaw-dropping grab nearly on a daily basis. He probably won't move ahead of Boerkircher on the depth chart but is trending toward carving a role on offense.

Jaguars loser: Christian Braswell, cornerback

While Jabbar Muhammad has solidified his odds of making the 53-man roster, Christian Braswell could be at risk of tumbling down the depth chart. While the veteran cornerback wasn't outright bad at OTAs, he didn't stand out either.

Unless Muhammad struggles in training camp, Braswell could become a victim of the numbers game, especially if Jacksonville only carries five cornerbacks next season.

Jaguars winner: Brian Thomas Jr., wide receiver

Unlike some of the players on this list, Brian Thomas Jr. has already proven that he can play at a high level, registering 82 catches for 1,282 yards with 10 touchdowns as a rookie. However, he's coming off a disappointing season in which he struggled with drops and inconsistency. The 2024 first-round pick knows that he's under pressure. The good news is that he's putting in the work to get back on track.

Thomas was a standout throughout OTAs. Head coach Liam Coen routinely heaped praise on him, and Trevor Lawrence recently talked about the steps he's taken to improve their rapport. Next, No. 7 will have to show consistency in training camp. He should have no trouble doing just that.
