The Jacksonville Jaguars have no shortage of talent and depth at wide receiver. Brian Thomas Jr., Parker Washington, and Jakobi Meyers are their top 3 options in the passing game, but Travis Hunter should also get his fair share of targets despite the fact that he'll play corner full-time. Although CJ Williams and Josh Cameron are on the bottom half of the depth chart, they showed enough promise in training camp and the preseason to make you think that they'll carve out some kind of role in 2026.

Heading into Week 1 of the regular season, Washington is the one who has gotten the most attention. Not only because he's projected to be the No. 1 target in the passing game, but also because he's in the midst of a contract impasse, and there were reports that he and the Jags could strike a deal before the game. That said, he's not the only one garnering attention before Jacksonville takes on the Cleveland Brows.

Meyers suffered a thumb injury during training camp. He appeared on the injury report ahead of the season opener, so his status for the game was up in the air. This begs the question, will the eight-year veteran suit up for the game? Here's what you need to know.

Jakobi Meyers will play for the Jaguars vs. the Browns in Week 1

Jakobi Meyers was a limited participant in all three practices ahead of Week 1. However, he didn't get a designation for the game. And if there were any doubts that he will be a full-go, he made it clear when he met with reporters that he will suit up.

The question then becomes what kind of role Meyers gets in Week 1. That's where things get tricky because Parker Washington will tentatively be WR1, but under head coach Liam Coen, Jacksonville puts an emphasis on spreading the ball, meaning that the top target in the passing game can vary from week to week. That said, expect the former North Carolina State Wolfpack to have a key role against the Browns.

Jakobi Meyers will have a big role for the Jaguars in 2026

Before the Week 1 game, Liam Coen stated that Jakobi Meyers' rapport with Trevor Lawrence has improved substantially. That's noteworthy since the two already had a strong connection dating back to the 2025 trade deadline when Jacksonville acquired Meyers from the Las Vegas Raiders in return for a couple draft picks.

From the get-go, Meyers brought stability to the offense, helping the Jaguars solve the drop issues they were dealing with before his arrival. The Lithonia, Georgia native ended up appearing in nine games with seven starts in Duval, hauling in 42 receptions for 483 yards with three touchdowns.

Having spent a full offseason with the Jaguars, it's fair to assume that Jakobi Meyers will post better numbers in 2026, and he'll be ready to roll in Week 1.
