The Jacksonville Jaguars have suffered several injuries in recent weeks, so they erred on the side of caution against the Carolina Panthers, choosing to sit out most of their starters. However, one look at the sidelines showed that wide receiver Jakobi Meyers is dealing with some kind of ailment.

Juston W. Lewis of The Florida Times-Union posted on Twitter that Meyers had some sort of brace on his right hand, adding that the veteran wideout missed the final drive of practice Wednesday. Liam Coen later told the local media after the game that he jammed his finger, noting that the team will see how the injury progresses.

"We'll have to see," Coen told reporters after the game. "He kind of jammed it, so we'll have to see where it is at when we get to Tuesday. I don't want to push it too much."

The injury doesn't appear to be serious, and the season opener is still three weeks away, as of this writing. Nevertheless, Meyer's injury will be worth monitoring.

Why is Jakobi Meyers so important to the Jaguars?

An undrafted free agent in 2019, Jakobi Meyers began his NFL career with the New England Patriots. He bolted to the Las Vegas Raiders in 2023. The former North Carolina State Wolfpack was entering the last year of the deal he signed but wasn't granted his request. That led him to ask the Silver & Black to be traded.

The Jaguars came calling, sending fourth and sixth-round picks to Las Vegas in return for Meyers. Right off the bat, he brougth stability to the Jacksonville offense, reeling in 42 catches for 483 yards with three touchdowns in nine games with seven starts. The team's top brass didn't waste any time rewarding him, giving him the three-year deal worth $60 million he had been looking for.

Meyers is now entering his second campaign in Duval and should be even better, as he got to spend the offseason with the team, a luxury he didn't have in 2025.

What coudl the Jaguars do if Jakobi Meyers misses time?

The silver lining is that the Jaguars have options if Jakobi Meyers weren't available for the season opener against the Cleveland Browns. With Parker Washington and Brian Thomas Jr. entrenched as the othe top receivers, Travis Hunter could have an uptick in playing time. Then again, that may not be ideal since he's expected to play cornerback full-time.

Rookie CJ Williams and Josh Cameron have made substantial progress and have shined whenever they've been given chances. They could replace Meyers in the aggregate, so the team's brass wouldn't have to look for external help.

The truth is that it's never good to see players deal with injuries, especially one like Jakobi Meyers, who's expected to have a big role next season. The good news is that it doesn't appear to be serious for the moment, so the Jaguars can breathe a sigh of relief.
