4. The Jacksonville Jaguars should re-sign CB Tre Herndon in 2023

Cornerback is one of the Jaguars’ biggest needs this offseason. The front office would surely like to address it in the offseason and sign either James Bradberry or Jonathan Jones in free agency. However, Jacksonville will be working with a tight budget and won’t be able to make either one the kind of offer they will get in the open market.

Instead, expect the Jags to take a cornerback early in the draft. At No. 24, they’ll have a shot at taking one of the top prospects in the draft. But even if the team’s brass come out with a pretty good corner, they’ll still need to bolster the depth at the position, especially after parting ways with veteran Shaquill Griffin.

Tyson Campbell and Darious Williams hold the top two spots on the depth chart. Let’s say whoever they draft this year seizes the nickel job. That’s three. They need depth behind them and Chris Claybrooks is entering the last year of his rookie year.

Gregory Junior and Montaric Brown aren’t ready for bigger roles, so the Jags should bring back a familiar face in Tre Herndon, who’s filled for Griffin the last two seasons and was a mainstay of the Jaguars secondary in 2019 and 2020.

Even though Herndon might not be suited for a featured role at this point of his career, he can line up at nickel or outside and can hold the fort in case either Campbell or Williams have to miss time for whatever reason.
