No. 2 under-the-radar free agent for the Jacksonville Jaguars: Troy Hill

Most analysts are right when they say cornerback is a position of need for the Jaguars. However, they miss the mark when they say Jacksonville needs to find a solid cornerback opposite Tyson Campbell, which isn’t necessarily accurate. The front office handed Darious Williams a three-year contract worth $30 million and he lived up to the end of his bargain.

Williams started the 2022 season in the slot and wasn’t particularly dominant but he became pretty reliable once he moved outside, allowing just six receptions for 46 yards and no touchdowns on 19 targets.

Those are some pretty good numbers and head coach Doug Pederson expects Williams to remain in the perimeter in 2023. If that’s the case, the Jaguars would then need to look for a nickel cornerback, and Troy Hill, Williams’ former teammate, might be one of the best ones available in the open market.

After going undrafted in 2015, Hill spent time with the Cincinnati Bengals and the New England Patriots before signing with the Los Angels Rams later that year. He worked his way up the Rams’ depth chart and ended up appearing in 70 games with 39 starts and registering seven interceptions from 2016 to 2020.

Hill then signed a two-year contract with the Cleveland Browns in 2021 but was traded back to Los Angeles last offseason. He had an uneven year and missed time with a groin injury but he would be a solid option that could at the very least provide depth at cornerback for the Jaguars.
