3. The Jacksonville Jaguars must sweep the Houston Texans in 2023

As bad as the Jaguars were in recent years, the Houston Texans have been even worse. It all began when former-head coach Bill O’Brien was given general manager responsibilities in 2020. O’Brien was a fine coach, leading the Texans to four playoff trips in his first six seasons on the job. However, he was in no way qualified to make personnel decisions and progressively left the roster devoid of talent after a series of questionable moves.

Things didn’t get much better when Houston kicked O’Brien to the curb, hiring and later firing Dave Culley and Lovie Smith in consecutive seasons. On the bright side, there’s nowhere to go for the Texans but up. Having the highly respected DeMeco Ryans as their head coach should bring some stability to the franchise. Getting rid of vice president of player personnel Jack Easterby should also help them turn the corner.

The irony is that the Texans haven’t lost to the Jaguars since 2017 in spite of all the dysfunction they’ve experienced in recent years. Jacksonville was the better team on paper in 2022 but they still managed to get swept by their division foes. To make matters worse, Houston has only won seven games over the last two years and four of them have come against Jacksonville.

The Jags need to circle their games against the Texans on the calendar and remind themselves that they can’t let another year go by without sweeping their division rivals.
