No. 1 trade the Jacksonville Jaguars can make for TE Darren Waller

Safety Trevon Moehrig displayed flashes in his rookie campaign and was a Day 1 starter for the Raiders but he regressed last season. Even if he bounces back, Las Vegas needs to plug someone next to him. None of the options currently on their roster seem particularly enticing, which is why trading for Rayshawn Jenkins would make sense.

A fifth-round pick by the Los Angeles Chargers in 2017, Jenkins signed a four-year deal worth $35 million in 2021. The former Miami Hurricane was selected team captain but didn’t do much of note in his first season with the Black and Teal.

Then again, you can shrug it off as a product of playing for Urban Meyer. After all, pretty much every Jaguars player failed to make an impact during the short-lived Urban Meyer era.

Without the influence of Meyer, Jenkins bounced back in 2022 and went on to have a career year. Besides starting every single game, he registered three interceptions, including his game-changing pick-six that helped the Jaguars beat the Dallas Cowboys. Similarly, the veteran safety had a strip sack of Tennessee Titans quarterback Joshua Dobbs in the season finale that outside linebacker Josh Allen recovered to put the Jaguars on top.

All things considered, the Jaguars would probably miss Jenkins’ playmaking skills and leadership. But if that’s what it takes to land tight end Evan Engram’s potential replacement, the team’s brass should at least give it a thought. Moreover, trading Jenkins would pave the way for the Jags to re-sign fan favorite Andrew Wingard, who is also scheduled to become a free agent in the offseason.
