3 stats that define the Jaguars incredible win in Super Wild Card Weekend
The Jaguars O-Line held the Chargers to 10 total pressures, 2 sacks
Led by Khalil Mack and Joey Bosa, the Chargers have a stout front seven, one that finished the regular season with 40 sacks. However, the Jaguars’ offensive line limited them to 10 total pressures and two sacks. In fact, Mack and Bosa had a combined one sack and two quarterback hits, as John Shipley of Sports Illustrated noted.
Sophomore Walker Little, who became the Jaguars’ left tackle when Cam Robison went down with an injury, didn’t allow a single pressure in Super Wild Card Weekend. Similarly, rookie Luke Fortner played well, giving up just one total pressure and posting a Pro Football Focus passing grade of 75.6, the highest among Jaguars players.
One key moment of the game came in the fourth quarter when Joey Bosa was flagged for unsportsmanlike conduct on the play when Trevor Lawrence connected with wide receiver Christian Kirk to make it 30-26.
Bosa claimed he was being held by right tackle Jawaan Taylor and when he didn’t get the call he thought he deserved, he threw his helmet to the ground twice in frustration and was penalized for unsportsmanlike conduct. The Jags then chose to go for it to draw to within 30-28.
Head coach Doug Pederson told the media after the game that the Jags wouldn’t have probably gone for it if Bosa hadn’t been flagged. The offensive line deserves credit for neutralizing Bosa and getting him flustered.
