1. Jaguars biggest strength ahead of the 2023 offseason: Quarterback

After several failed attempts, the Jaguars found a long-term answer at quarterback when they drafted Trevor Lawrence. Although the former Clemson Tiger struggled in his rookie campaign, he’s improved considerably under Doug Pederson’s tutelage.

Lawrence had a solid start to the 2022 season but then had somewhat of a sophomore slump. However, he has played like a top-10 quarterback since Week 9, completing nearly 70 percent of his passes for 1,909 yards with 14 touchdowns and just one interception.

Following years of minimal production from the quarterback position, the Jaguars should be thrilled they won’t have to pour considerable resources into the position. On the other hand, they need to keep replenishing their quarterback room. C.J.

Beathard, the primary backup at the position, is slated to become a free agent next offseason. He hasn’t played much over the last two seasons but could fill in for Lawrence for a couple of games if needed. Bringing him back wouldn’t be cost-prohibitive but the Jags could also look for upgrades in free agency.

Also, it would be a good idea to draft a quarterback with a late-round pick next year. The Jags signed E.J. Perry after going undrafted but it’s hard to tell if he’s part of the team’s long-term plans.

You have probably heard that the second most important player on the roster after the quarterback is his backup. The Jaguars already have a starter in Lawrence but need to decide who will back him up in 2023.
