No. 1 Jaguars best-kept secret in 2022: Jamal Agnew, WR

Can you really say return specialist is a best-kept secret after returning a kickoff and a missed field goal for touchdowns last season? How about his 66-yard touchdown run against the Indianapolis Colts in Week 10? You know you’re doing something right when your cleats end in the Pro Football Hall of Fame, which is precisely what happened to Agnew last year.

On the other hand, Agnew suffered a hip injury that cut his 2021 season short and due to all the additions the Jaguars made to their offense, his name isn’t brought up often when discussing his potential impact in 2022. But he does pop up every now and then and head coach Doug Pederson was asked about him in a recent sitdown.

Pederson said that he wasn’t able to discuss Agnew’s role but noted that he would be “a big part of what we do”. The head coach went on to say that he will “get his touches”, which bodes well for the Jaguars’ offense.

After all, Urban Meyer, Agnew’s head coach last year, has never been known as an offensive innovator and he was able to get him involved. Now imagine the kind of impact the former San Diego Torero could have for the Jags in 2022.

The Jaguars aren’t an offensive juggernaut but opposing defenses could have a hard time stopping Christian Kirk, Evan Engram, and Zay Jones, which could leave Agnew with many opportunities to make game-changing plays once again.
