No. 2 Jaguars player whose stock rose this summer: Trevor Lawrence, QB

At first, including Trevor Lawrence on this list felt like cheating because the consensus agrees that he’s poised to get much better in his sophomore year. But then, it occur to me that it wouldn’t be fair not to acknowledge that he could play a big role in the Jaguars competing for a playoff spot.

Doug Pederson was arguably Jacksonville’s most important addition in the offseason but that’s only because Lawrence was already on the roster. Pederson has the team trending in the right direction but there’s only so much a good head coach can do and at some point, even the best need good players. That’s where Lawrence comes in.

The Jaguars’ brass recognizes Lawrence’s value, so they did as much as they could in the offseason to put him in a position to succeed. For starters, he didn’t have to share reps in training camp, unlike last year. And against the Pittsburgh Steelers, he showed he can pull off the kind of throws on a few quarterbacks can pull off.

While it’s hard to envision Lawrence becoming a top 10 quarterback in 2022, he should be way better than he was in his rookie campaign, when he completed less than 60 percent of his passes and throw 17 interceptions, tied with Matthew Stafford for most in the league.

Even with Urban Meyer at the helm, Lawrence flashed at times last year. He will now have the chance to showcase his full talent, which could potentially lead to a playoff berth.
