No. 1 Jaguars player whose stock is plummeting: Ryan Santoso, K

The Jaguars’ biggest loser following the loss to the Steelers is probably kicker Ryan Santoso, who had a chance to lock the job but came crashing down. He missed his first attempt, a 51-yarder. He went on to nail his next two field goals, one of 53 yards and a 25-yard one. But then he missed the one he shouldn’t have with the game on the line.

With three seconds left on the clock, Santoso missed a 57-yard attempt that could have given the Jaguars the win. Sure, he didn’t have a favorable field position and had plenty of pressure on his shoulders but that’s part of the job description.

Santoso didn’t single-handedly lose the game but he failed to win it when he could. Moreover, he could have secured the kicker job but he didn’t. After all, the Jags had just released Elliot Fry not long after signing him and there was nothing standing between the job and Santoso.

Looking back, it’s a good thing Doug Pederson didn’t commit to Santoso. A few days ago, he told the local media that he needed to see more from him, and after the game, he said that he expects Santoso to” battle back and try to correct it”.

Kicker seems to be one of Jacksonville’s biggest roster holes ahead of the regular season, so it’s possible that they will keep throwing darts and bring in someone else in the upcoming days to try to fix or stabilize the position as much as possible.
