Depending on who you ask, the Jaguars have one of the most dynamic running back rooms or one o the worst. This discrepancy in opinions is mostly due to James Robinson and Travis Etienne coming off serious injuries.

While the Jags seem to legitimately have a promising backfield tandem in Robinson and Etienne, rookie Snoop Conner has also made the most of his opportunities in training camp. The former Ole Miss Rebel toted the rock three times for 10 yards against the Raiders and is a good bet to be the third running back on the depth chart.

Similarly, Mekhi Sargent ran the ball five times for 22 yards last Thursday and might end up making the 53-man roster. This potentially leaves Ryquell Armstead as the odd man out. A fifth-round pick in the 2019 draft, the Temple product didn’t get much playing time as a rookie and missed the 2020 season with complications from COVID-19.

Armstead was released last offseason and spent time with a few clubs before returning to Jacksonville towards the end of the year. He ended up appearing in two games and shined against the Indianapolis Colts in the season finale, toting the rock nine times for 52 carries. However, his outstanding performance hasn’t carried into training camp.

There is still time for Armstead to make up some ground but the clock is ticking. The fact that Travis Etienne is getting most of the workload in practice and is set to start against the Browns doesn’t help his case.
