No. 1 free agent the Jaguars can sign: Odell Beckham Jr., WR
The Jaguars did a good job of restocking their wide receiver corps this offseason, so the position doesn’t look like a need ahead of training camp. Nevertheless, they should consider adding Odell Beckham Jr. down the road.
Christian Kirk and Zay Jones joined the Jags in free agency and both of them are expected to take on starting roles. Marvin Jones Jr. will most likely be the No. 2 receiver on the depth chart and Laviska Shenault Jr. will probably get a signficant amount of snaps. Also, Jacksonville brought back Laquon Treadwell and signed Kevin Austin Jr. after the conclusion of the 2022 draft, so depth shouldn’t be an issue.
Having said that, Beckham could give the Jaguars’ wide receiver room a boost… once he’s healthy, as he’s currently rehabbing a torn ACL he suffered in Super Bowl 56. But once he’s given the green light, he could become a hot commodity around the league. After being released by the Cleveland Browns in 2020, the former LSU TIger joined the Los Angeles Rams and was an integral part of their offense in the playoffs. He also scored a 17-yard receiving touchdown in the Super Bowl, showing he can still take over games.
If Beckham makes a full recovery, he will have his fair share of options and will be able to be picky when choosing his next team. The Jaguars aren’t currently Super Bowl bound but are taking steps in the right direction under head coach Doug Pederson. While that may not be enough to convice Beckham to sign with them, it shouldn’t stop the Jags from trying.
