No. 3 Jaguars training camp storyline to watch – James Robinson’s injury

CJ Beathard isn’t the only Jaguar who is dealing with injuries. Third-year running back James Robinson tore his ACL late in the 2021 season and is still recovering. Although he’s already started doing some light work, he might not be ready for training camp.

The team’s brass doesn’t have to rush Robinson back on the field, as the regular season is more than two months away. In fact, this will give the coaching staff time to evaluate their other running backs on the roster, rookie Snoop Conner and Ryquell Armstead. On the other hand, the Jags would surely want to have Robinson back as soon as possible. Over the last two seasons, he was one of Jacksonville’s best players regardless of the position and the offense experienced a dip in production whenever he wasn’t on the field.

Despite the fact that he never got more than 18 carries last season, Robinson was one of the top running backs in the league and it was puzzling that Urban Meyer didn’t want to get him involved more. Fortunately, Travis Etienne is back in the fold and he should be able to hold the fort while Robinson recovers.

Etienne is also coming back from an injury of his own. However, he’s 100 percent healthy and ready to make his NFL debut after missing his entire rookie campaign. Once Robinson is back in the fold, the Jags could have one of the most dynamic backfields in the league.
