No. 1 Jaguars player entering a contract year in 2022- Jawaan Taylor, RT

The previous players on the list had success in 2021 to some degree or another. Meanwhile, right tackle Jawaan Taylor struggled to live up to expectations. Last offseason, former offensive line coach George Warhop said that he and left tackle Cam Robinson had made strides but still had to become more consistent. And while Robinson went on to have a career year, Taylor had a season to forget.

The former Florida Gator went on to start every single game in 2021 but his performance was far from great, allowing six sacks, 34 total pressures, and a whopping 12 penalties. Sure, he gave up less pressure than the year before the number of penalties he surrendered are a cause for concern, especially when you take into account that he’s gotten flagged 32 times in three years.

Nevertheless, the Jaguars’ brass is still high on Taylor and believes that he can still turn the corner this upcoming season. However, he will need to compete with sophomore Walker Little to keep his job, and based on the flashes he showed as a rookie, there’s a chance he could claim the right tackle spot.

Every player is different but it took Robinson several years to find consistency and become a mainstay of the Jaguars’ offensive line. Taylor could have a similar career path, and who knows? Maybe he turns the corner in 2022 and ends up having a career year, and if that happens, it’s fair to wonder if the Jaguars’ decision-makers choose to re-sign him before he becomes a free agent next offseason.
