2. Jaguars most under-the-radar pick in the 2022 NFL Draft – Luke Fortner.

The Jaguars didn’t invest as many resources into their offensive line as they did with other position groups but the moves they did make were pretty significant. Besides giving left tackle Cam Robinson a long-term deal, they signed Brandon Scherff in free agency. Moreover, they used a third-round selection on Kentucky center Luke Fortner.

Even though the Jags brought back veteran Tyler Shatley on a two-year deal and he’s expected to start in Week 1 of the 2022 season, Fortner might try to unseat him in training camp. It’s hard to tell how things will unfold and the former Wildcat might not be ready to have a featured role just yet but even if he begins the year on the bench, he might not stay there for long.

Fortner played guard for most of his collegiate career and could have declared for the 2021 draft but opted to use his sixth year of eligibility and switch to center. He ended up looking the part and showed he could potentially line up there in the pros.

Before the draft, this writer thought that the Jaguars needed to address the center position with the 33rd overall selection and Cam Jurgens seemed like a solid option. Instead, they waited until pick No. 65 to take Fortner and ended up landing a pretty good prospect. They might have even found their long-term answer at center and won’t have to worry about the position in a long time.
