No. 3 player the Jaguars hope falls to the 2nd round – Nakobe Dean.

The Jaguars moved on Myles Jack this offseason but they quickly signed Foyesade Oluokun to fill the void. Oluokun has been the better player of the two the last couple of years, so even though they paid a premium for his services, they upgraded their linebacker corps.

With Jacksonville releasing Dylan Moses just a few days ago, Shaquille Quarterman and Chappelle Russell are next in line to play opposite Oluokun but what if the team’s brass added another linebacker in the draft? And what if that linebacker were Georgia’s Nakobe Dean?

When it comes to the draft, you should always expect the unexpected, and prospects that look like surefire first-round picks often fall to the second round. The Jags should be thrilled if that were to happen to Dean. The team’s brass recently met with fellow Georgia product Quay Walker but Dean is the more talented of the two and should garner plenty of consideration if Jacksonville were in the position to pick either one.

Dean is the top-ranked linebacker prospect on Bleacher Report’s big board and 18th overall on Pro Football Focus’. The former Bulldog has plenty of range, sideline-to-sideline speed, and is a terrific blitzer. Derrik Klassen of B/R’s scouting department believes that even though he could struggle with covering tight ends due to his size, he has an “enticing foundation of traits to build upon” and Pro Bowl potential. Wouldn’t that be worth a second-round pick?
