No. 5 Jaguars player that could surprise us in 2022 – Laviska Shenault, WR.

There are many players that were affected by Urban Meyer’s toxic environment last season and wide receiver Laviska Shenault might have been one of them. How else would you explain his regressing after a productive rookie campaign in which he hauled in 58 receptions for 600 yards and five touchdowns? While Viska did have more catches, he averaged half a yard less per reception and didn’t reach the end zone even once in 2021.

While Shenault has been the subject of trade talks in recent weeks, the Jaguars are better off keeping him. After all, the former Colorado Buffalo is still on his rookie deal, and even if he were to tumble down the depth chart, he would add depth to Jacksonville’s wide receiver corps. Now, that’s the worst-case scenario and there’s a good chance he will bounce back in 2022. Moreover, it’s highly unlikely that the Jags will get more than a third or fourth-round selection for him so they should hold onto him, and help him get back on track.

Even though Shenault isn’t a speedster, he can get deep. Also, he’s pretty good at breaking tackles and creating yards after the catch. With better coaching and game-planning, he could become a dangerous weapon in 2022.

With the additions of Christian Kirk and Zay Jones in free agency, Shenault may need to compete for a role on the Jaguars’ offense but he’s talented enough to make some noise in 2022 and have a breakout season.
