No. 5 Jaguars player who needs to develop in 2022 – Trevor Lawrence, QB.

Of all the players on this list, there’s no doubt Trevor Lawrence is the most talented one. In fact, he might have been the most talented prospect to enter the draft since Andrew Luck in 2012. Alas, the coaching staff didn’t have a concise plan to develop him and ended up wasting his rookie campaign. The fact that the Jaguars lacked weapons on offense didn’t help matters and because it pours when it rains in Jacksonville, injuries hit the roster hard too.

The 2021 season is now in the books and the Jaguars gave Urban Meyer the boot. Knowing that Lawrence’s development is key, the organization brought in Doug Pederson as the head coach after an exhaustive search. Although it’s hard to tell how the hire will end up playing out, the early signs are encouraging.

Pederson recently made an appearance in 1010 XL and said the team isn’t looking backwards, adopting a new approach to help Lawrence become the franchise quarterback the Jags expected when they made him the top pick in last year’s draft. The head coach added that they will welcome the insight of their young passer.

Based on Pederson’s recent comments and previous success with the Philadelphia Eagles, it looks like the Jaguars got the right coach to help Lawrence make a big leap in Year 2. However, that’s just the beginning. They now need to bolster their wide receiver corps, fortify their offensive line, and made a few upgrades to their defense. If they do all these things (and that’s a big if), they could improve significantly and become a darkhorse candidate to make the playoffs in 2022.
