No. 4 tight end the Jaguars should target in free agency – Dalton Schultz.

The Dallas Cowboys had the No. 1 offense in the NFL last season, amassing 530 points and 6,919 yards. Dak Prescott’s return from a season-ending ankle injury in 2020 certainly played a big role but so did Big D’s arsenal of weapons.

The Cowboys’ wide receiver corps was one of the best in the league in 2021 and even though they didn’t have Michael Gallup for a significant amount of time, they didn’t miss a beat. Also, tight end Dalton Schultz became a key cog on their offense, tallying 78 receptions for 808 yards and eight touchdowns.

A fourth-round pick by the Cowboys in the 2018 draft, Schultz didn’t get much playing time in his first two NFL seasons but he worked his way up the depth chart and became their starting tight end in 2020. Dallas would surely love to bring back the former Stanford Cardinal but they are currently on a cap crunch and might have a hard time making a competitive offer for his services.

Schultz and Mike Gesicki could be the top two tight ends in this free agency and both of them should get a top-market contract. However, the Jaguars might be better off paying a premium for the former, who is the more well-rounded player of the two. Think about it, if the Jags are going to make a heavy investment, they might as well get the most bang for their buck. Pro Football Focus projects Schultz to sign a four-year deal worth $52 million ($13 million per year). While that seems like a steep price, he would give the Jaguars’ tight end group a noticeable boost.
