Is Ryan Ramczyk worth some of the Jaguars’ draft capital?

If the Jaguars want an immediate upgrade, a trade for Ryan Ramczyk of the New Orleans Saints would put their offensive line back on track. Saying that Ramczyk turns this unit into a respectable one isn’t farfetched at all. The six-foot-six, 315-pound behemoth is a former All-Pro who had some injury trouble last year but has been reliable for most of his career.

His most recent accolade was being named to the Associated Press All-Pro Second Team as a right tackle. His PFF grade of 86.6 in the run blocking department is noteworthy on top of his pass blocking prowess. A player of this magnitude won’t come cheap. Luckily for Jacksonville, it appears the New Orleans Saints will soon be rebuilding following head coach Sean Payton’s retirement.

This is where having that additional third-round pick will come in handy. It can be swung for Ramczyk this April, in addition to sending a second-round choice for next year. An issue that some teams will have in trying to acquire the tackle will be his massive contract. With a base salary of more than $10.5 million, he’s anything but a bargain.

However, for a team trying to protect their young quarterback, this will be worth it. The team could have Ramczyk handle left tackle duties while Jawaan Taylor continues developing on the right side. Another route is to acquire Ramczyk and keep him at his natural position while drafting a right tackle.
