No. 5 big-name free agent Jaguars must sign in 2022 – Odell Beckham Jr.

Wide receiver is arguably the Jaguars’ biggest roster need this offseason and they should not hesitate to spend money to address the position. Ja’Marr Chase showed this season how much a wideout can improve his quarterback’s performance and if the Jags want to put Trevor Lawrence in a position to succeed, they need to get him as many weapons as possible.

Signing Davante Adams would give the Jags a bonafide number one wide receiver but it looks like the Green Bay Packers will use the franchise tag to keep him if necessary. That’s how good the five-time Pro Bowl designation is. With Michael Gallup and Chris Godwin suffering serious injuries late in the season, Odell Beckham Jr. might the Jacksonville’s best bet to upgrade their wide receiver corps.

Early in his career, Beckham was one of the most recognizable difference-makers in the league but his production dropped considerably after being traded to the Cleveland Browns in 2019. During the 2021 season, his dad posted a video on social media that showcased all the times he was open but wasn’t targeted. Eventually, the Browns decided they didn’t want to deal with the receiver anymore and opted to release him. Faster than you can say “big-name addition”, the Los Angeles Rams signed him.

Looking back, Odell Beckham Sr. deserves the NFL executive of the year award as his son has on to become an important cog in the Ram’s offense and has played a key role in their two playoff wins this year. If the Jaguars choose to sign him in free agency, he could do the same for them in 2022.
