Jaguars potential 2022 draft picks to watch: Alabama vs. Cincinnati
No. 4 Draft prospect Jaguars must watch – Jameson Williams, WR, Alabama.
Jameson Williams was one of the most productive wide receivers in college football in 2021. His 1,445 receiving yards were fifth in the nation, his 15 receiving touchdowns ranked third and he averaged a monster 21.3 yards per grab. He’s a good bet to get drafted in the first round next year but a great performance against the Bearcats would make him a lock in the top 10.
Williams will play against Cincinnati cornerback Ahmad Garner, another potential first-round prospect. “Sauce” gave up just 12 receptions on 26 targets for 87 yards and logged three interceptions and three sacks in 2021. Whoever ends up winning this matchup will see their draft stock rise.
The Jaguars would surely welcome Williams in their wide receiver corps but it wouldn’t make sense to use the top pick in 2022 on him. Instead, Jacksonville could attempt to trade down a few spots, but not out of the top ten, to take the Missouri native. The New York Jets at number four or the New York Giants at number five would be two potential trade partners.
William is the kind of deep threat the Jags have lacked since DJ Chark Jr. fracture his ankle in Week 4. The team’s brass could draft the former and re-sign the latter. They could then spend their abundance of cap space on other position groups such as the offensive line, their tight end group, or even their front seven.
