3. Will the Jaguars score more than ten points against the Jets?

The Jaguars’ defense has contributed to their 2-12 record but the unit has stepped up at times only to be let down by the offense. Their lack of playmakers has certainly played a role in their inability to score points. Also, the offensive line has struggled to give Trevor Lawrence enough time to throw the ball.

Besides establishing the run early, the Jaguars will need to avoid committing boneheaded penalties. They were flagged only four times against the Texans. Also, the coaching staff needs to find ways to get their wide receivers open. Laviska Shenault Jr. was placed on the COVID-19 reserve list, so Laquon Treadwell and Tavon Austin could see a ton of targets their way.

The Jaguars’ offense has averaged 10 points per game since Week 8. Having a 34.3 success rate on third down is a big reason why and if they want to beat the Jets, they will need to improve on that area.

Tight end James O’Shaughnessy recently told the local media that “losing eats your soul” and he’s right. It can be demoralizing to see the losses pile up. That’s why a win against the Jets in Week 16 would be huge, even if their chances of landing the top pick in next year’s draft decrease.
