No. 2 player the Jaguars could have taken at 9th overall – CeeDee Lamb

2020 was a good year to load up on certain position groups. Offensive tackle was one, and wide receiver was another. The Jags did take a wideout but it was until the second round when they took Laviska Shenault Jr. The jury is still out on the 42nd overall pick, and calling him a flop after less than two years in the league may be a tad too premature.

On the other hand, Justin Jefferson, Jerry Jeudy, and CeeDee Lamb have already become difference-makers for their respective teams. Even Henry Ruggs III was trending up and could have been included in the list if he hadn’t been responsible for a car accident that tragically ended the life of a woman a few weeks ago.

The Dallas Cowboys drafted Lamb 17th overall despite the fact they already had Amari Cooper on the roster. The bottom line is you don’t pass up the chance to add a difference-maker. Cooper is a fine receiver himself but Lamb has become the primary target in Big D’s passing game. Last year, he almost got 1,000 yards receiving and scored five touchdowns. In 2021, the Oklahoma product has hauled in 47 receptions for 726 yards and six touchdowns. He’s averaging 15.4 yards per catch.

Imagine the kind of impact Lamb would have had opposite DJ Chark Jr. in Jacksonville. Also, wide receiver wouldn’t be a position of need for the Jaguars heading into the 2022 offseason.
