Jacksonville Jaguars player No. 3 – Tight end Luke Farrell

Is it fair to ask a fifth-round rookie tight end to step up in the third game of the 2021 season? Probably not, but the Jaguars are shorthanded and tight end with James O’Shaughnessy out for a few weeks and will need as much help as possible from other players. That includes Luke Farrell who has not played much in the last two games, logging 40 offense snaps (30 percent of the team’s total)

Jacob Hollister may finally make his debut with the Black and Teal in Week 3, and Chris Manhertz might see his playing time increase. Nevertheless, it could be Farrell the one that could get the most snaps. Then again, it’s possible that the coaching staff will have a balanced mix of Hollister and Farrell.

So far, Farrell has registered one catch for six yards. He won’t suddenly turn into Travis Kelce 2.0 but he could be targeted around four or five times in Week 3. Regardless of the number, the former Buckeye needs to come down with all or most of them.

Back when the Jaguars drafted Farrell, general manager Trent Baalke said he believed the tight end was underutilized at Ohio State. If that’s the case, the coaching staff needs to find a way to get him involved against the Cardinals’ not-so-great back seven.
