Jacksonville Jaguars player who must show out No. 5 – QB Trevor Lawrence

It feels almost surreal but Trevor Lawrence is a few days from making his NFL debut and he will do it as the starting quarterback of the Jaguars. If you told someone at this point last year that the Clemson product would be playing for the Black and Teal, you might’ve gotten a blank stare. After all, Gardner Minshew was coming off a productive rookie campaign in which he threw for over 3,000 yards with 21 touchdowns and just six interceptions.

The Jags started the 2020 season strong, beating the Indianapolis Colts. Things then went south and Jacksonville went on to lose their next 15 games, which ensured they would clinch the first overall pick in the 2021 draft and the opportunity to land Lawrence.

The former Clemson Tiger was unspectacular in the Jaguars’ first two preseason games. However, he turned the switch on and scored a pair of touchdowns against the Dallas Cowboys in Week 3 of the preseason. The coaching staff may not put too much on Lawrence’s plate in Week 1 of the regular season. They will ask him to be accurate and keep drives alive but they won’t ask him to put the whole team on his shoulders yet.

Also, Sunday’s game won’t likely turn into a shootout, so don’t expect Lawrence to score five touchdowns. Still, he should be able to execute the Jaguars’ game plan. On the off chance, he doesn’t the Jaguars’ odds of winning the game will decrease considerable.
