Jacksonville Jaguars player to watch No. 5 – TE Tim Tebow

The Jaguars’ brass will have to make some tough choices over the next few weeks. There are several players that will be victims of the numbers game and tight end Tim Tebow could be one of them.

Nobody would have thought a couple of seasons ago that the former Gator would be making the transition to tight end. At the time, he was still focused on his baseball career and he had already said that he wasn’t interested in switching positions. That’s why it was kind of surprising to see him land in Jacksonville earlier this year and do so with the intention of playing tight end. Then again, it’s not that shocking when you take into account that Urban Meyer, his head coach in Florida, now holds the same position with the Jags.

After making a positive impression early in training camp, Tebow has hit a wall in recent days. He’s still working hard and has been a great teammate by all accounts. However, the transition from quarterback to tight end wasn’t going to be easy, and he needs to work on his pass-blocking technique and his receiving skills. He still has a shot to make the 53-man roster but needs to stand out in preseason.

Chris Manhertz, James O’Shaughnessy, and rookie Luke Farrell are locks to make the team. That leaves one roster spot available for another tight end. Tebow needs to show he deserves it more than Ben Ellefson and Tyler Davis. Having a solid performance against the Browns will help his cause.
