Jacksonville Jaguars players trending up No. 3 – TE Marvin Jones

The Jaguars had a solid wide receiver corps last season. However, the team’s brass believed the unit could be even better and signed Marvin Jones Jr. this offseason. The 2012 fifth-round pick will join a group that includes DJ Chark Jr. and Laviska Shenautl Jr.

Both Chark and Viska have had a fruitful offseason and should see their numbers go up with quarterback Trevor Lawrence behind center. Nevertheless, there will also be enough targets for Jones, who has also shined in the early portion of training camp.

The veteran wide receiver has developed a nice rapport with Lawrence and has made a few catches worth a highlight reel. On Day 2 of training camp, he hauled in a 40-yard reception down the right sideline. He wasn’t done though and he followed that with another outstanding catch. This time, it was a 25-yard touchdown reception. Expect more of the same this week. Also, expect him to often face one-on-one matchups in 2021 as Chark and Viska will draw coverage away from him.

While Jones may not post a 1,000-yard season in 2021 but that may not matter. Even though his individual numbers won’t probably jump out of the stat sheet, he will be a key cog on the Jaguars’ offense this upcoming season. The former Detroit Lion has been a solid number-two throughout his NFL career, hauling in 32 touchdown receptions over the last four years. That’s an average of eight per season. The team’s brass would surely want him to score that amount.
