Jacksonville Jaguars player under scrutiny No. 4 – QB Trevor Lawrence

Quarterback Trevor Lawrence isn’t on the fringe nor competing for a roster spot. Nevertheless, he will be under scrutiny simply because he was the first overall pick in 2021’s draft. The Clemson product will have some leeway because the Jaguars are coming off a 1-15 season but if he struggles early in the season and Zach Wilson, who was drafted one pick later, thrives, the pressure could mount.

Keep in mind that Jags aren’t building for 2021. Even if Lawrence doesn’t have an outstanding rookie campaign, he could still have a productive NFL career. After all, every player is different and some need a bit more time to develop. However, all eyes will be on the former Tiger in training camp: Every off-target throw and every interception will be magnified. Also, he was slowed down by a hamstring injury during mandatory minicamp. It wouldn’t be shocking to see some question his health if he starts limping.

The fact Lawrence was pegged as the best quarterback prospect since Andrew Luck won’t help matters either. After all, the top selection in 2012’s draft had success right out the gate. On the bright side, the organization knows their rookie signal-caller will need as much help as possible if they want to put him in a position to succeed. They are making sure he has enough offensive weapons at his disposal.

Will Lawrence live up to the expectations that come with being the first overall pick in the draft?
