Jacksonville Jaguars top 5 players on roster under 25 years old
2. Jawaan Taylor – Jacksonville Jaguars right tackle
Jaguars right tackle Jawaan Taylor had a down year in 2020 after showing promise in his rookie campaign. However, he wasn’t the only player in Jacksonville to regress last season. It feels like every single player on the Jags’ roster underperformed or was injured (or both).
Taylor appeared on every single snap in 2020 but he allowed eight sacks and a staggering 58 pressures. Also, he posted a Pro Football Focus overall grade of 56.5. However, you look at it, that’s not the kind of performance you want from your right tackle, especially one that possesses outstanding power and mobility.
Now, it’s too early to give up on the Florida product. After all, he’s just 23 and he is in the process of hitting his stride. Head coach Urban Meyer cleaned house this offseason and brought in his own coaching staff. Nevertheless, he kept offensive line coach George Warhop, who has been working with Taylor and left tackle Cam Robinson.
Warhop told the local media that Taylor has shown progress but he still has plenty of work to do. Mainly, he has to improve in pass protection. On the other hand, the offensive line coach described the 2019 second-round pick as “physical” in the running game.
Taylor has never missed a game in his two-year career. Also, he’s barely entering his third season in the NFL. If he gets it together in 2021, he could finally have a breakout season and even make the Pro Bowl. The potential is there, he just needs to unlock it.
