The Jacksonville Jaguars secondary will be better too in 2021.

Rayshawn Jenkins and Shaquill Griffin were the most important additions the Jaguars made to the secondary, but they weren’t the only ones. The team also added cornerback Tyson Campbell and safety Andre Cisco in this year’s draft. Moreover, they re-signed Sidney Jones, Tre Herndon, and Josh Jones. Head coach Urban Meyer said after free agency the team’s brass was pleased with their cornerback group but their safety unit also looks in good shape ahead of the 2021 season.

When speaking with the media, Joe Cullen also discussed the addition of Cisco and Campbell to the back end. The defensive coordinator said they both checked every box when it comes to height, weight, speed, athleticism, and ball skills. He added that you can never have enough corners, so getting Campbell was really big. He also spoke highly of Cisco, bringing up the fact he was a top safety prospect before he suffered injuries.

Cullen noted that regardless of the system, safeties must know how to cover man to man and how to tackle. “You have to be able to do all those things and whether it was in Baltimore, or in a 4-3 scheme, those skill sets are the same, and they have to do the same thing here in Jacksonville”, the defensive coordinator said.

Just like the Jaguars’ defensive front, the secondary will be able to withstand a few injuries in 2021. In particular, their cornerback room is crowded and has the potential to become a strength last season. The organization got the coaches and the players to improve in 2021, nothing is stopping this Jacksonville’s defense.
