Travis Etienne will give the Jacksonville Jaguars’ offense another dimension.

Have you ever listened to a song that you don’t like it at first but end up liking the more you listen to it? That’s more or less what’s going on with the Jaguars’ decision to select Travis Etienne in the first-round of 2021’s draft. Why would they draft a running back with the 25th overall pick when they could get a quality one in later rounds? Moreover, why would they take one when they already had rookie sensation James Robinson?

When Jacksonville drafted Etienne, they didn’t see a running back, they saw a playmaker that racked up 686 carries for 4,952 yards and 70 touchdowns. Furthermore, the team’s brass saw a receiving threat that hauled in 102 receptions for 1,155 yards and eight touchdowns over his four-year collegiate career.

While Robinson will still get most of the workload, Etienne should have a big role on the Jaguars offense even if he isn’t the starting running back. Also, it wouldn’t be shocking to see both take the field at the same time or the Clemson product line up in the slot.

It’s true that the Jags could’ve addressed other position groups in the first round, but all things considered, they landed a playmaker in Etienne and were still able to add a few talented prospects in the second and third rounds.
