Round 1 (continued): Picks 7-12

No. 7 – Detroit Lions: Ja’Marr Chase, WR, LSU

Detroit swapped quarterbacks with the Los Angeles Rams and they need new weapons for signal-caller Jared Goff. The Lions end up getting themselves one who is considered possibly the top wide receiver in this year’s draft.

No. 8 – Carolina Panthers: Rashawn Slater, OT, Northwestern

The 49ers trading up threw a wrench in Carolina’s plans, as they may have been targeting Trey Lance with this pick. Teddy Bridgewater didn’t pan out the way the Panthers had hoped, so they traded with the Jets for quarterback Sam Darnold. Now, they get an offensive tackle to protect him.

No. 9 – Denver Broncos: Caleb Farley, CB, Virginia Tech

The Denver Bronco’s biggest need is at cornerback and they have the opportunity to get the best one in the draft with the ninth overall selection.

No. 10 – Dallas Cowboys: Christian Darrisaw, OT, Virginia Tech

The Dallas Cowboys have paid Dak Prescott a lot of money, so they need someone to protect him and Christian Darrisaw can do precisely that.

No. 11 – New York Giants: Gregory Rousseau, DE, Miami

The New York Giants addressed some of their other needs through free agency, so targeting EDGE at this spot makes a lot of sense.

No. 12 – Philadelphia Eagles: Jaycee Horn, CB, South Carolina

The Eagles have several needs on defense that they have to address, but they also need a wide receiver. Jaycee Horn makes a lot of sense, but they could go after one of the top wide receivers at this spot.
