3 mid-round running back prospects Jacksonville Jaguars can consider
The Jacksonville Jaguars could use a dual-threat running back.
For a running back to make the most impact on the field nowadays, they have to be effective runners but also be an asset in the passing game. Demetric Felton could do both in the NFL, that’s why he’s such an interesting prospect in this year’s draft.
Washington Football Team running back Antonio Gibson played mostly wide receiver at Memphis. However, he switched positions in the NFL and thrived as a rookie in 2020, appearing in 14 games with ten starts and racking up 170 yards for 795 yards and 11 touchdowns. Felton’s skill set compares well to Gibson’s and could have a similar impact in the pros.
A three-star prospect per 247 Sports coming out of high school, he played wide receiver early in his collegiate career at UCLA but bulked up in his senior year and switched to running back. The change of positions worked in his favor and tallied 132 carries for 668 yards and five touchdowns.
Felton lined up at both running back and wide receiver in Senior Bowl week and displayed his flexibility to have an impact on either spot. Jim Nagy, the executive director of the event, described the Tennessee native as “electric” and foresees him becoming an immediate contributor in the NFL.
While Nagy believes Felton could be a Day 2 pick in the draft, there’s a chance the Jaguars could land him in the fourth round. If he’s available by them, they should consider turning the draft card with his name on it.
