This could be the best free-agent choice for the Jacksonville Jaguars.

The Jaguars will have to address many roster needs this offseason and it’s uncertain how much they will prioritize the position. Even though they will have 11 draft selections and a vast amount of cap space, you could argue that left tackle, defensive end, and cornerback are bigger needs. Thus, it’s unknown how high tight end ranks in their offseason list but if they want to take care of the position in free agency, Jonnu Smith will be arguably the best one available in the open market.

A third-round selection by the Tennesee Titans, Smith has hauled in 114 receptions for 1,302 yards with 16 touchdowns and has averaged 6.8 yards after the catch over his four-year career. Last season, he caught 41 passes for 448 yards and eight touchdowns.

Jaguars offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell knows the impact a tight end can have on offense, having previously worked with former All-Pro Jimmy Graham with the Seattle Seahawks. Although Smith isn’t the deep threat Graham was in his prime, Bevell would surely find a way to maximize his talent and feature him on Jacksonville’s offense. There’s a chance Smith could be back with the Titans but if he hits the open market, the Jags need to make a strong push for his services.
