2. San Francisco 49ers

Trent Williams has been one of the best left tackles in the NFL and will probably be the most coveted one if he hits the open market. His 93.5 Pro Football Focus’ grade is the second-highest graded for a left tackle since 2011. Moreover, he showed last season he can still play at a high level at age 32.

The San Francisco 49ers currently have $13 million in cap space and will have to get creative with their accounting books if they want to re-sign Williams. PFF projects that he will get a four-year $80 million contract. In fact, the Jaguars could be one of the few teams in the league that could offer him that amount and still have enough money left to make other additions in free agency.

The ‘Niners’ could open up $25.6 million in cap space if they release quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo. However, they also need to re-sign cornerback, defensive end Kerry Hyder, cornerback Jason Verrett, and fullback Kyle Juszczyk. Keeping Williams will probably be their top priority but they may have competition for his services in free agency. If they can’t keep him, they should consider signing Cam Robinson.
