The Jacksonville Jaguars need to add depth to their running back room.

The Giants have one of the best running backs in the NFL in Saquon Barkley, so when he went down with an ACL tear in Week 2, it seemed like New York’s running game would take a hit. However, they were able to keep it going and Wayne Gallman was a big reason why.

A fourth-round pick in the 2017 NFL Draft, the Clemson product had had more than 100 carried in a season just once, his rookie year. Then, he took charge in 2020, starting ten games and racking up 147 carries for 682 yards and 682 touchdowns. He also hauled in 21 receptions for 114 receiving yards. In four years, he has amassed 338 carries for 1,444 yards and six touchdowns.

Although Gallman had just one 100-yard game, he showed he can carry the load and could be the perfect complement for Jaguars’ running back James Robinson. The Illinois State product had a historic rookie season but missed the last two games of the year with an ankle injury.

The team’s brass needs to get him someone who can spell him from time to time and step on the field in case he misses time with injuries once again. Although there may be running backs with a higher profile in free agency, Gallman should receive interest in the open market.
