Should the Jacksonville Jaguars pull the trigger?

The Jaguars are going to start a rebuilding process. They have begun to interview candidates for both their head-coaching and general manager openings. Once they’re done with the hirings, the team’s brass will have to come up with a vision and a plan to take on the offseason.

Getting a quarterback will be one of the most important moves this Jacksonville team will have to make in 2021. Making the right choice will help them start winning games and turn things around. On the other hand, Picking wrong could set the franchise back years.

They could roll with an established veteran like Watson. After all, they have the assets to pull a trade. On the other hand, they would allocate too many resources to the quarterback position even though it’s not the only one in need of upgrades. Also, taking on Watson’s salary, while not prohibitive, would severely hinder the organization’s ability to be active on free agency.

Keep in mind Trevor Lawrence is one of the best quarterback prospects in years and the ‘Jags’ would have him on a team-friendly deal. They could use the picks and the salary cap they would need to trade for Watson to fortify other position groups such as the defensive line and the secondary.

Watson is one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL, but it’s not often that a team holds the first overall pick when they will have the chance to take one of the best quarterback prospects in years. As great as Watson could be in Jacksonville, the ‘Jags’ are better off keeping the draft picks and making Lawrence the top selection in the draft.
