Dwayne Haskins offers a cautionary tale to the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Even if the Jaguars opt not to consider Haskins, they should definitely find out what went wrong for him. The quarterback certainly played a factor in his dismissal and didn’t make the soundest decisions off the field. On the other hand, was there a support system, the infrastructure in place to help him succeed?

After all, Washinton has been one of the most dysfunctional organizations in the NFL, and other players in Haskins’ situation may not have had success either. Who was there to hold him accountable and help him grow as a person and as a player while doing so? He is certainly not a child anymore, but everyone is wired differently and he might’ve needed more support than others.

By now you may be wondering what that has to do with Jaguars football. It’s simple, they will likely draft Trevor Lawerence in next year’s draft. The Clemson quarterback has the skills to help the team be relevant again, but if they want him to thrive, they will have a system in place that will put him in a position to succeed.

Sure, the Jaguars have now clinched the first overall selection, but that will be just the beginning of the turnaround. If they want to turn into a perennial contender, they can’t expect Trevor Lawrence to save them. Instead, they have to give him the necessary tool and the resources to be successful, something Washington may not have done with Haskins.
