Chris Conley provides a veteran presence to the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Parting ways with Chris Conley is probably the easiest decision the Jaguars have to make. The emergence of rookie receiver Collin Johnson has fans questioning why Conley stayed in the lineup for as long as he did. He has also had a bit of a drop problem and just doesn’t seem to be connecting with the quarterbacks in this offense, and yet, he stayed out there.

There has to be a reason for that. The coaching staff clearly saw something in Conley they liked and plugged him in the lineup. However, that seems to have faded a bit with Johnson receiving more and more playing time in recent weeks.

With a young, solid group that features two promising rookies in Johnson and Lavish Shenault Jr, the likelihood of the Georgia product re-signing decreases. The one avenue though that might keep him in Jacksonville is the ‘C’ on his chest. He has been one of the faces of the team when it comes to leadership and for good reason.

Conley has been at the forefront of any and all social justice issues this team has been apart of the discussion and change on, especially early in the season. That leadership could potentially be held in a higher value to whoever comes in as the general manager, but it doesn’t seem like that alone will keep him in Jacksonville.

Verdict: Let him go
