The Jacksonville Jaguars reinforce the trenches in the first round.

After trading for Carson Wentz, the ‘Jags’ can address all their other roster needs. While they could take a defensive end or a cornerback with the second overall pick, they opt to select the best non-quarterback player in the draft, left tackle Penei Sewell.

The Eagles offensive line has failed to protect Wentz this season and are giving up sacks at an alarming rate. By drafting Sewell, they ensure their new quarterback gets enough chance to throw the ball and upgrade their left tackle position in the process.

. . Carlos Basham Jr, EDGE. 1. player. 889.

The Jaguars’ front four has shown signs of progress in recent weeks. Dawuane Smoot has been the team’s best defensive end in recent weeks and rookie K’Lavon Chaisson has had some success pressuring opposing quarterbacks in the last few weeks. Nevertheless, the team’s brass needs to reinforce their defensive line and add another pass rusher in the draft.

Carlos Basham Jr. is the pick with the Jaguars’ second first-round selection, the second one they got from the Los Angeles Rams in exchange for cornerback Jalen Ramsey in 2019. The Wake Forest defensive end has registered 20 total tackles, five sacks, and four forced fumbles in six games in 2020. Jacksonville could field a formidable defensive line rotation with Basham in the mix.
