4 Jacksonville Jaguars on defense that must step up vs Titans
Heading into Week 13, the Jaguars were dead in the league in sacks, with a paltry 11. Their defense woke up against the Browns and registered four. Dawuane Smoot was responsible for two of those and currently leads the team with 4.5. Although that kind of production isn’t on par with the NFL’s elite pass rushers, Smoot’s effort and hard work shouldn’t go unnoticed.
The defensive end is set to become a free agent once the season ends, and another solid game like the one he had in Cleveland will force the Jaguars or another team to open their wallet for his services.
This Jacksonville team should be pleased with the investment it made when it gave Joe Schobert a five-year $53.7 million contract this past offseason. Despite the fact he had somewhat of an uneventful start early in the year, he’s been been a key cog for the defense in the last few weeks.
All in all, Schobert’s played on 98.59 percent of the team’s total snaps on defense and has registered 62 solo tackles, 43 assists, one forced fumble, and two interceptions, one of them returned for a touchdown. If he can force a turnover against the Browns, he will ensure the team has a chance to win their second game of the year.
