Jacksonville Jaguars: Argument for trading for Eagles QB Carson Wentz
The Jacksonville Jaguars would need to think this one through.
The most concerning aspect regarding Wentz isn’t his contract or his 2020 production. The Jaguars have the resources to both pull a trade and surrounding him with talent. In fact, Jacksonville’s wide receiver corps is rather talented and rookie running back James Robinson could help take some pressure off the quarterback.
What is really worrisome is the fact Wentz isn’t receptive to criticism and may not know how to cope with adversity. Jay Glazer of FOX Sports reported that the former first-round pick lost confidence when the Eagles drafted Jalen Hurts in 2020. Moreover, teammates have described him as selfish, egotistical, and someone who doesn’t like to be questioned, according to Joseph Santoliquito of PhilllyVoice.
Wentz doesn’t like to be pushed, which was one of the reasons why the team didn’t go out of its way to retain quarterbacks coach John DeFilippo, who used to get the most out of him. Keep in mind the quarterback had some of his best years under DeFilippo, and if he can’t embrace hard coaching, he may not be the correct player to build a team around.
Wentz has shown he can play at a high level, but his personality is a cause for concern. The Jaguars would need to weigh the positives and the negatives before making a decision.
