Jacksonville Jaguars: Studs and duds following 9th straight loss
James Robinson is the best Jacksonville Jaguars offensive player.
For the tenth straight game, James Robinson ran hard. On one hand, it’s exciting how the Illinois State standout has quickly established himself as the Jaguars’ best player on offense. On the downside, the team’s losing record is overshadowing how tough and productive their rookie running back has been.
Robinson averaged 4.3 per carry against the Steelers and finished the game with 17 carries for 73 yards. Also, he hauled in two receptions for 21 yards. While he earned the distinction of becoming the fourth undrafted running back to get 1,000 scrimmage yards, he would’ve likely preferred to win this game.
When the 2020 season started, Tre Herndon was the starting cornerback opposite C.J. Henderson. Then, the team signed Sidney Jones to their practice squad and later promoted the former Philadelphia Eagles cornerback to the active roster.
A few weeks later, Jones seized Herndon’s job, but the latter would still get plenty of playing time because D.J. Hayde was out with a hamstring injury. With the Jaguars placing C.J. Henderson on the Injured Reserve list and Jones out with an Achilles injury, Herndon was back in the starting lineup.
Against the Steelers, Hernon registered seven total tackles and one pass defensed. He was overall solid and held the fort in coverage.
Imagine how inefficient the Jaguars’ offense was against the Steelers that their kicker, Chase McLaughlin scored the most points for the team in Week 11. To add insult to the injury, the Illinois product joined the team not too long ago after Josh Lambo suffered an injury in Week 9.
This wasn’t the only time the ‘Jags’ lost Lambo to injury this season. The difference was that the first time, four different players tried to hold the kicking duties without much success. This time though, McLaughlin has done a competent job in Lambo’s place and his performance shouldn’t go unnoticed.
