4. The Jacksonville Jaguars could bring back QB Blake Bortles

This one may be the most far-fetched one, but why not sign quarterback Blake Bortles? He’s currently part of the Denver Broncos practice squad, but just like Kyle Slotter, he can be signed at any moment by any team as neither of them is protected by their respective club.

Going back to Bortles, why would the Jaguars want to sign a player he previously wore the Black and Teal and didn’t have much success doing so? The first reason for that is that the free-agent quarterback doesn’t provide better alternatives. The second one is that it makes sense to bring a player that is familiarized with the coaching staff.

It’s true that the Jaguars parted way with Bortles due to his ineffective play, but it’s equally true that the team isn’t currently faring any better without him. Back in Duval, the quarterback completed 1,561 passes for 17,646 yards, 103 touchdowns, and 75 interceptions. While his interception totals are one of the reasons behind his dearth of success, his production isn’t very different from the one the ‘Jags’ are getting from the quarterback position this year.

The chances of signing Bortles off the Broncos squad are slim, but the Jaguars aren’t simply a very good team right now. While the team’s brass awaits for Gardner Minshew to recover from his thumb injury, they need to keep the boat afloat and look for ways to stay competitive.
