See what Everson Griffen has left in the tank

This is one of those topics I talked about before in free agency. While the Jaguars traded away Calais Campbell this offseason, presumably because of his high price tag, signing Everson Griffen at a lower cost could yield the same kind of results on the field.

Griffen figures to provide leadership on the field and in the locker room, although he won’t replace the impact Campbell had on this organization. Adding another veteran to the pass rush may also ease the pain of finally trading Yannick Ngakoue.

At 6”3” and 273 pounds, Griffen may be quicker off the line and could also give you another eight sacks like he did last season in Minnesota. He would also serve as a mentor to Josh Allen and K’Lavon Chaisson, who could become a dynamic pass-rushing combination over the next few seasons.

This is one of those pickups that seems like a reach based on what the Jaguars already have on the defensive line, but the front office did not break the bank to sign other free agents this offseason and don’t figure to do that with this potential move.

The risk is certainly less than the reward if Griffen can give the Jacksonville Jaguars production in a limited role.
