Jacksonville Jaguars continue to climb Forbes’ team value chart

Jacksonville Jaguars owner Shad Khan made a wise investment in the team when he bought them in 2012, seeing a massive value increase.

In terms of real value, the Jacksonville Jaguars are worth $80 million more than they were a year ago. That isn’t an explosion on the same scale as Nintendo following Pokemon Go’s release, but it certainly good for a team that doesn’t win very much. They are now worth a total of $1.48 billion.

In relative terms, the recent increase in value puts the Jacksonville Jaguars as the 27th ranked franchise in the NFL. The Jags jumped two spots this year.

For owner Shad Khan, this is all good news. The NFL has been booming as a whole, but the Jaguars have more than doubled in value (according to Forbes) since he bought them just three seasons ago. Imagine just how valuable the team can be if they can put a winning product on the field!

While none of this necessarily matters (the Cincinnati Bengals are valued 29th and have been to the playoffs consistently) to the everyday fan, it does matter in the abstract concept of the Jacksonville Jaguars. The team, rumored with relocation for so long, has shown it can be a valuable part of the NFL roster in its current location, consistently bolstering its value through shrewd business moves and drumming up support in its relatively small market.

Perhaps no owner and no team has put as much effort into creating a comprehensive product as Khan has done in Jacksonville. From stadium improvements to fantasy integration to branding changes, Khan has managed to keep his team fresh despite some truly lackluster seasons of football. For the Jaguars, it all begins at the top and Khan has been leading incredibly well.

Hopefully we’ll see the Jaguars make an even bigger jump up the rankings this season as they fight for 8-8 or better.
